3 Stars informative, but a little too opinionated
I got this book from the library, and I’m glad I didn’t buy it, because I don’t think it had enough value that I’d want to own it. As other reviewers have said, her diet is impossible: no carbohydrates whatsoever within 3 hours of bedtime, no carbohydrates whatsoever at breakfast. (she suggests an eggwhites-only omelet, and says never to touch egg yolks.) I had read another book on skin care, by another doctor, and her book contradicts his over and over. Since she isn’t giving reasons for her statements, I don’t know who to believe.

You will learn something about skin care from this book. But if I were you, I’d also seek out another opinion.

5 Stars the BEST skin care products I have EVER used!!!!!
About two and a half years ago I was in the hospital just bored in the bed channel surfing and stumbled upon QVC. I watched for a while before a Dr. Denese came on for an hour of beauty talk and her selling her products. I tend to try the new products on the market not always believing their claims to transform your skin blahblahblah…and I thought, ok, why not try one more. She looked beautiful enough( the woman is in her 50s and looks 20 years younger!!), what she said made sense and I got the feeling that she wasn’t one of those BSers I’ve seen on way too many other beauty/health segments where they’re so superficial…this woman really was the real deal here. So when I got out of the hospital my Dr. Denese Try-Me kit was waiting at home.

I tried the kit….thinking, Ok Dr. D…show me whatja got…. Within the first week alone I started to notice something remarkable….the texture of my skin was changing…the blotches & bumps were starting to diminish greatly…. the reddness…soon began to fade away. I kept looking in the mirror and thinking…ok, what is IN these products!!! And I did my own online investigation and her products are very natural and healthy for my skin but they are unlike any others I had ever tried (and I have tried em all, even the expensive fancy brand department store ones) And the weird thing was….about 3 weeks in the routine, I went to work WITHOUT MAKEOUT!!!!! I know! Some of you wouldn’t be caught dead without foundation, blush etc. Well I did…and no one noticed one thing or ran screaming after they looked upon my makeupless face….but that day several co-workers said ‘what have you done to your skin? New Makeup? You’re skin is glowing!!’ I slowly incorporated all of her products into my daily skin care (the facial pads and cleansers alone are worth GOLD, but the age corrector creams and moisturizers are AMAZING!!!)And almost 3 years later I am thrilled to say I look younger, my face is beautiful without a stitch of makeup, but if I do wear it, I feel like some model :) cause it her products simply enhance any makeup you might use…her foundation is terrific. But the thing I loveeeeeee to hear…that people think I am 35…when I am closer to 50!! And I used to get skin blotches or pimples around that time of the month, now…my skin is always clear and young looking… I made the mistake one time of rushing into the drugstore to buy some product I had used before…and my skin resorted back to the uneven texture and dullness…I learned my lesson that time. And never have ever stopped using her products. I truly feel this is the fountain of youth we all seem to be searching for..I realize the gene pool has alot to do with your skin, but the products you choose to use determine your skins future and Dr. Dense has been a Godsend…and I just now got this book…all these years later and I love it….she truly is one, if not THE best in this field. I highly recommend this book AND her products (ps they aren’t that expensive at all and last a long time..so worth it!! Just try one of her kits for starters, you will find out just what I’m talking about here and you won’t regret it and be telling all your friends about Dr. Denese as well!)

3 Stars Some really good info, impossible diet to follow
This book provided me with one of the best piece of information about skin that is exfoliation does not makes you skin thinner rather makes it thicker. I am really grateful to Dr. Denese for making that clear because I always worried that if I use my micridermabrasion cream more my already thin skin will be thinner. But the extant of exfoliation this book suggested is not suitable for a sensitive skin person (I just have mildly sensitive skin). Infact I dont think even I can sustain use of 10% glycolic acid peels everyday (I used her facial pads and it did not suit me at all). Another thing that is kind of confusing about this book is that the way it is written it seems like no one can have a dry skin, dry skin is the result of under exfoliation and that seems like a wrong idea to me. She does prescribe her products more or less frequently but not so much to get on your nerve. One information she provided in the book was wrong, she suggested use of products with carnosine highly and said,

“as far I know my serum/cream is the only product in the market that contains carnosine” ( not exactly in these words I rephrased), but this is absolutely wrong almost all olay regenarist products contains carnosine. It seemed very unlikely to me that she did not notice it.

Her diet is impossible to follow, I believe either you will have to starve or have to have a chef if you want to follow that diet.

I will still suggest the book to someone because I did learn few things.

5 Stars Dr Denese’s Secrets for Ageless Skin
Excellent transaction! Great value; perfect condition!Immediate shipping! This could not have been any better in terms of customer service. This rates 10 stars on a five-star scale.

5 Stars Great overall info
This book has given me a great overview in knowledge about skin care. Dr Denese does own her own product line which is mentioned throughout, (but not exclusively). I found the info relating to ingredients and strength of ingredients very helpful. As well as the different steps in cleansing and moizturizing.

I found I re-read the book with a highlighter to take note of the key points, as she does seem to repeat herself a few time, and this makes it easier to have the basic info on ingredients and their strength when shopping for products. I have found her info, as well as Paula Begoun’s very helpful.

5 Stars Great Read!
I love this book. Although I agree with other reviews that we already heard many of these tips, there are also new ones I never heard of. This book reinforces my rationale that fad diets don’t work and that you need to eat healthy food and make healthy choices. Great food and exercise tips from stars, celebrity trainers, etc. And I love the mango and papaya mashed with lemon juice and mixed with water for a refreshing drink. Delicious!

1 Star Waste of money

Its tedious and gives no info that you havent hear a million times before.

Eat well, drink water and exercise. Duh.

4 Stars Fun Read
Don’t take yourself or celebs too seriously, but a fun encouragement read for perfectionsists and serial dieters.

1 Star Useless
This was pretty useless as a book, I might use it as a coaster. (if I used it as a coaster though I’d have to actually admit to buying the darn thing).

I didn’t like it, I thought it was very repetitive and boring. If anyone wants my copy I’ll send it to you for shipping costs.. Just let me know.

4 Stars Secrets or Just Common Sense either way It’s Gold!
I headed over to Barnes and Noble to browse the diet books section again. I figured of the more than 300 titles in this area there had to be at least a few left that I hadn’t already purchased! I had seen this book before, but I had the mindset that “celebrities have so much money..their secret must be lypo and botox, personal chefs, diet pills and personal trainers…how can an average Jane compete.” I picked up the book in spite of myself and copped a squat on one of the lounging chairs at the bookstore. From the introduction I was hooked, it was such a lighthearted, honest and humorous read. I found myself smiling and thinking something in response to the celebrities statement…only to see the author put in print my thoughts in her response.

One reviewer stated that the book is contradictory, well that’s a given when it’s the “opinions” of many celebrities. I’ve always been of the mindset and my good friend say’s all the time, “any diet will work the secret is to find the one that works for you.” I think this philosophy is summed up nicely in this book because what works for Jennifer Garner, might not work for Jessica Alba and so on.

There is a lot of common sense stuff in the book that we all know, but for me hearing someone actually say “add benefiber and emergen-c to a little water” was more instructional and straight forward than saying “add some fiber to your diet.” Most of the book is specific as to what is actually eaten (fruits, veggies, lean proteins) and very specific (low mercury tuna) and helpful websites are provided to put you in touch with where to shop for specific items. Throughout the book are different tips and suggestions from the celebrities and their trainers. I think you definitely must pick and choose those that fit into a plan you can live with, but overall it’s a lot of great advice. I read it in one evening and now I plan to go back through it with a fine tooth comb, pick out the things I think I can incorporate into my lifestyle, and note these in a little notebook that I can carry with me in my purse…maybe add in a few quotes for when I need one of my girlfriends to kick me in the rear.

I have not read the beauty secrets book so this was my first encounter with the authors. For me, this is such a motivational book because it’s like having girlfriends right there with you each step of the way. We often look at celebrities and we see perfection. To read what they think of themselves, that they laugh at certain aspects of the illusion of who they are, that they have the same hangups and insecurities about their body AND that they have to work just as hard to keep their body as we will need to is very motivational. I also liked the little “hollywood words/vocabulary” splashed throughout the book, it helps to break things up a bit and serves as another form of laughter.

I would highly recommend this book to my friends, in fact it’s currently making the rounds in my office. It’s probably not for die hard fitness guru types, but it’s dead on for most any woman that ever just felt like giving up, like nothing made a difference, like she was in it alone. I’ve already started to use several of the tips and it kickstarted my old eating habits. I know I feel better, lighter and cleaner when I eat more veggies, fruit, lean proteins and consume water, but it’s all too easy to forget something so simple in a working, going to school, housewife, soccer/football/track/dance mom world…thanks for the inspiration, it’s just what I needed to get back on track!

5 Stars definitely a keeper
i bought this book when i first got interested in herbalism. now most everything i know on taking care of day-to-day illnesses comes from this book. sore throats, headaches, stomach problems, ear problems… it’s indispensable. also, it’s very well organised and has several indices, so you can search by herb or by complaint. it’s a keeper!

5 Stars FABULOUS!
I have just started learning about herbal remedies and leading an herbal lifestyle, and this was one of the first books I read on the subject. I strongly recommend this book to any herbalist - beginners or pros. Jude’s recipes are easy to follow - and they are wonderful. I’ve made my own soap and lotions so far…and they have turned out beautifully. This book has changed my life and opened my eyes to a healthier way of living.

5 Stars Heal Yourself Without Prescriptions!
Herbal Home Remedies By Jude C. Todd, CH, MH, is a household guide to living more simply and benefiting from what our earh and our garden provide us naturally. The author is a master herbalist with her degree from Dominion Herbal College and is widely respected as an authority in the subject which has been her focus for forty years. She explains which plants can be used for health and healing and how and where these should be found or grown. The book is easy to use as the alements and treatments are listed in categories, often with several different natural treatments suggested. She also gives many recipes which have been time tested and proven. You will also find natural and effective cleaners, air fresheners, laundry aids, insect repellent, as well as some tasty uses of herbs in foods. At the back of the book you’ll find drawings of many of the plants used in the formulas for safe identifications. This is a fascinating book for those of us unfamiliar with the territory and a must for the serious herb user

5 Stars A must have
If you are a wise woman, healer, medicine woman, or herbalist then add this wonderfull little book to your shelves. I was very pleased to have an older copy of this book and use it all the time. Buy this book along with HERBS AND THINGS and HEALING WISE and you will have a complete herbal library.

5 Stars Keep it Handy
The author gets right to the heart of it with the signature of the herbs—terrific! Not many books out there that tell you exactly what to do, and how much dosage! I’ve been looking and hers is the best yet! I advise you to keep it handy on your kitchen shelf as you’ll be able to use it every day! A great book!

5 Stars Wonderful gift
I bought this book as a gift for my 18 year old neice and she absolutely loved it!!!

1 Star A stupidity of book, with no value. Terrible wrong information!
If you want to irritate your skin and use ingredients you should to avoid in skin care, read this book. Any dermatologist would forbid this book. Its is an insult for dermatology science. I dont know how I paid for this book, when I read 15 pages I throw at the garbage it.

4 Stars Great source for home remedies & alternatives
Covers beauty topics but also fashion, supplements & even low calorie recipes. No pictures. No specific product recs. Ms Irons prefers natural/cheaper alternatives so this book is filled with home remedies and multi-use items. The fashion tips are rather dated. If you don’t have a good censor I would recommend skipping that section.

I doubt anyone could read this book & walk away without finding at least one new thing to try.

5 Stars Beauty secrets
This is my third Diane Irons books,I love every one of them.Great savings on my face creams, i have done most of her skin treatments and the do work for me.

5 Stars enjoyed this book
found it practical and inspiring. since i spend a small fortune on cosmetic products, i view this as a way to spend less and use more natural products.
