Vintage Health and Disease Information Joan Avoids a Cold DVD 1947

Joan Avoids a Cold offers dated and sometimes hilarious advice about how to protect yourself from other’s germs. Joan and her brother go through a typical day, where Joan does everything right and her brother constantly screws up. On their walk to school, Joan avoids the puddles, but her brother jumps in them like a normal kid. He also shares food with someone at school, which Joan frowns upon. Now, swimming with other peoples germs, and sitting in sopping wet socks, Joans brother begins to show signs of a cold. The teacher sends him to the nurse, whose office sports a sign that reads “Bodies, like buildings, should keep erect.” After noticing the wet feet and taking his temperature, the nurse declares him sick and calls his mother. Mom takes the added precautions of boiling his dishes after hes eaten and making him spit into the toilet instead of the bathroom sink when hes brushing his teeth, so that no one else will catch his cold. Other scenes include kids being dosed with cod liver oil, and children dressed in traditional Dutch costumes doing folk dances. This is a bizarre and fun vintage film.

3 Stars informative, but a little too opinionated
I got this book from the library, and I’m glad I didn’t buy it, because I don’t think it had enough value that I’d want to own it. As other reviewers have said, her diet is impossible: no carbohydrates whatsoever within 3 hours of bedtime, no carbohydrates whatsoever at breakfast. (she suggests an eggwhites-only omelet, and says never to touch egg yolks.) I had read another book on skin care, by another doctor, and her book contradicts his over and over. Since she isn’t giving reasons for her statements, I don’t know who to believe.
You will learn something about skin care from this book. But if I were you, I’d also seek out another opinion.
5 Stars the BEST skin care products I have EVER used!!!!!
About two and a half years ago I was in the hospital just bored in the bed channel surfing and stumbled upon QVC. I watched for a while before a Dr. Denese came on for an hour of beauty talk and her selling her products. I tend to try the new products on the market not always believing their claims to transform your skin blahblahblah…and I thought, ok, why not try one more. She looked beautiful enough( the woman is in her 50s and looks 20 years younger!!), what she said made sense and I got the feeling that she wasn’t one of those BSers I’ve seen on way too many other beauty/health segments where they’re so superficial…this woman really was the real deal here. So when I got out of the hospital my Dr. Denese Try-Me kit was waiting at home.
I tried the kit….thinking, Ok Dr. D…show me whatja got…. Within the first week alone I started to notice something remarkable….the texture of my skin was changing…the blotches & bumps were starting to diminish greatly…. the reddness…soon began to fade away. I kept looking in the mirror and thinking…ok, what is IN these products!!! And I did my own online investigation and her products are very natural and healthy for my skin but they are unlike any others I had ever tried (and I have tried em all, even the expensive fancy brand department store ones) And the weird thing was….about 3 weeks in the routine, I went to work WITHOUT MAKEOUT!!!!! I know! Some of you wouldn’t be caught dead without foundation, blush etc. Well I did…and no one noticed one thing or ran screaming after they looked upon my makeupless face….but that day several co-workers said ‘what have you done to your skin? New Makeup? You’re skin is glowing!!’ I slowly incorporated all of her products into my daily skin care (the facial pads and cleansers alone are worth GOLD, but the age corrector creams and moisturizers are AMAZING!!!)And almost 3 years later I am thrilled to say I look younger, my face is beautiful without a stitch of makeup, but if I do wear it, I feel like some model
cause it her products simply enhance any makeup you might use…her foundation is terrific. But the thing I loveeeeeee to hear…that people think I am 35…when I am closer to 50!! And I used to get skin blotches or pimples around that time of the month, now…my skin is always clear and young looking… I made the mistake one time of rushing into the drugstore to buy some product I had used before…and my skin resorted back to the uneven texture and dullness…I learned my lesson that time. And never have ever stopped using her products. I truly feel this is the fountain of youth we all seem to be searching for..I realize the gene pool has alot to do with your skin, but the products you choose to use determine your skins future and Dr. Dense has been a Godsend…and I just now got this book…all these years later and I love it….she truly is one, if not THE best in this field. I highly recommend this book AND her products (ps they aren’t that expensive at all and last a long time..so worth it!! Just try one of her kits for starters, you will find out just what I’m talking about here and you won’t regret it and be telling all your friends about Dr. Denese as well!)
3 Stars Some really good info, impossible diet to follow
This book provided me with one of the best piece of information about skin that is exfoliation does not makes you skin thinner rather makes it thicker. I am really grateful to Dr. Denese for making that clear because I always worried that if I use my micridermabrasion cream more my already thin skin will be thinner. But the extant of exfoliation this book suggested is not suitable for a sensitive skin person (I just have mildly sensitive skin). Infact I dont think even I can sustain use of 10% glycolic acid peels everyday (I used her facial pads and it did not suit me at all). Another thing that is kind of confusing about this book is that the way it is written it seems like no one can have a dry skin, dry skin is the result of under exfoliation and that seems like a wrong idea to me. She does prescribe her products more or less frequently but not so much to get on your nerve. One information she provided in the book was wrong, she suggested use of products with carnosine highly and said,
“as far I know my serum/cream is the only product in the market that contains carnosine” ( not exactly in these words I rephrased), but this is absolutely wrong almost all olay regenarist products contains carnosine. It seemed very unlikely to me that she did not notice it.
Her diet is impossible to follow, I believe either you will have to starve or have to have a chef if you want to follow that diet.
I will still suggest the book to someone because I did learn few things.
5 Stars Dr Denese’s Secrets for Ageless Skin
Excellent transaction! Great value; perfect condition!Immediate shipping! This could not have been any better in terms of customer service. This rates 10 stars on a five-star scale.
5 Stars Great overall info
This book has given me a great overview in knowledge about skin care. Dr Denese does own her own product line which is mentioned throughout, (but not exclusively). I found the info relating to ingredients and strength of ingredients very helpful. As well as the different steps in cleansing and moizturizing.
I found I re-read the book with a highlighter to take note of the key points, as she does seem to repeat herself a few time, and this makes it easier to have the basic info on ingredients and their strength when shopping for products. I have found her info, as well as Paula Begoun’s very helpful.
Black Beauty

Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse, is Anna Sewell’s only novel. The story is told in the first person (or “first horse”) as an autobiographical memoir told by a horse named Black Beauty—beginning with his carefree days as a colt on an English farm, to his difficult life pulling cabs in London, to his happy retirement in the country. Along the way, he meets with many hardships and recounts many tales of cruelty and kindness. Each short chapter recounts an incident in Black Beauty’s life containing a lesson or moral typically related to the kindness, sympathy, and understanding treatment of horses,
